A moment shared…
Quietly, before the house awakened, cosseted in my parent’s garden the peace and serenity I have yet to leave behind. I loved the abundance of roses smothering, hiding in every nook. Flaunting themselves as they billowed off the garden walls, with their intoxicating fragrances filling my head to distraction.
It was magical to hear the hiss of water sprays and see the rainbow effects created by the ‘5-fingered’ sprinkler heads, reaching up, cascading the droplets of water to the thirsty garden.
The gentleness, grace, and beauty of the birds scurrying for the best, fearful all could be lost with the heat of the day.
It was playtime as I enjoyed pulling an occasional weed, fluffing up while “tidying up” the soil with the garden hoe. I pinched… deadheading spent flower heads, and found it exhilarating to prune, having already learnt this would bring more flowers to come.
Alone and invisible, with the awakening sounds of the house, the moment to steal away a handful of roses had come. Off to my bedroom, I went.
Can you imagine what a strange girl my parents must have thought of me?
